THE refurbishment of the Jersey Lifeboat Association’s all-weather lifeboat Sir Max Aitken III took “longer than expected”, but is at last “nearing completion”.
The charity said that the boat, whose engine was also replaced, was “currently out of the water having some final modifications undertaken to the water intakes and then she will be ready for commissioning and sea trials, hopefully commencing in early July, subject to the manufacturer’s availability”.
“Whilst this significant project has taken longer than expected and not without some challenges, which occur when such a major package of works is undertaken on a 38 year old vessel, we look forward to seeing Sir Max back on service very soon,” the JLA added.
They thanked Islanders for their “patience and understanding” during the process.
