ISLANDERS are being warned about a company which the financial watchdog believes displays signs of being set up for fraudulent purposes.
The Jersey Financial Services Commissio said a member of the public had been cold-called by a firm calling itself Prime Defender Group, which falsely claimed an investment had significantly increased in value and offered to recover the funds for a fee.
The JFSC said the approach was consistent with an “advance fee fraud”, where victims are promised money or investment returns but are asked to pay upfront fees before receiving anything.
Islanders are being urged to be wary of unsolicited calls, emails or texts and to check any firm’s credentials before making payments.
