A POPULAR Grouville playground will be closed for several weeks while improvement works are carried out once ownership of the site transfers to the parish.
Grouville Constable Mark Labey said he hoped Sandy Park – which is owned by the Crown and managed by the Committee of the Chef Tenants in conjunction with the Receiver General – would be fully reopened before the start of the summer holidays on 18 July.
“The [current] owners of the play park have screened off the equipment, but the park is still open,” he said.
“The equipment is now fenced off, which is because of ongoing maintenance.
“When the parish finally takes it over – which should be very soon, and certainly before the end of June – we’re going to have to leave it closed for quite a few weeks.”
He explained that the parish plans to carry out a series of improvements, including replacing a fence near the sea wall and addressing issues identified during safety inspections.
The takeover follows a campaign by parishioners to save Sandy Park from possible closure.
The playground had previously been leased to the Government and maintained by Infrastructure until June 2025, when the parish agreed to take over the park amid fears that it could close completely.
Constable Labey said negotiations over a new 50-year lease were nearing completion, with only “minor amendments” still to be agreed between the parish, the Chef Tenants and the Receiver General.
