AFTER Covid closures and a lengthy refurbishment, the Jersey Amateur Dramatic will be returning to the Opera House stage this summer – seven years after its last production there.
Bringing the Sankoff and Hein musical Come From Away, the JADC production – which runs from 3 to 11 July – marks a significant milestone for the Island’s drama community as the first locally produced musical to be staged at the Opera House since its grand reopening last year.
For the JADC, the return to the stage represents a homecoming after several years of staging productions at alternative venues, including the Royal Jersey Showground.
Director Simon Thomas said: “This production feels incredibly special for all of us.
“The Jersey Opera House has always been at the heart of the Island’s theatrical community, and to bring a show as uplifting and human as Come From Away back onto its stage after so many years is a real privilege.”
Winner of multiple Olivier and Tony Awards, including Best New Musical in London’s West End, Come From Away tells the true story of 7,000 airline passengers who found themselves stranded in the small town of Gander, Newfoundland, after US airspace was closed following the terrorist attacks of 9/11.
The show follows the response of local residents, who opened their homes and hearts to complete strangers during the time of uncertainty.
The production will feature a local cast and live music, with organisers describing it as “one of the theatrical highlights of the year”.
To celebrate opening night on 3 July, JADC is offering a two-for-one ticket promotion, and tickets are available through the Jersey Opera House box office and website.
