A BURST mains pipe left a Grouville road flooded and 60 homes temporarily without water in the early hours of yesterday morning.
Jersey Water was called to a “significant leak” on La Grande Route des Sablons near The Pembroke pub at around 4am.
The firm’s team closed the road to allow urgent repair works to be carried out before it re-opened at 7.30am with temporary traffic lights in place.
By 9am, water had been restored to nearby businesses through the installation of a temporary overground pipework while repairs continued.
Around six properties were still without water by yesterday afternoon.
Martin Skyba, the company’s water network manager, said they were working “as quickly as possible to restore full service” and that the road is expected to be fully reopened today.
“Periods of warm, dry weather can affect ground conditions, which in turn can impact pipework,” he said.
“Combined with increased demand and pressure on the network, this can lead to bursts.”
