SPRINGFIELD Stadium’s grandstand is set to undergo major refurbishment works this summer as the government looks to extend the life of the facility by another 30 years.
The Infrastructure and Environment Department said the upgrade programme was “critical” to maintaining the ongoing operation of the Island’s main football stadium.
The grandstand features exposed steelwork and reinforced concrete terraces.
Recent inspections have identified the need for refurbishment works to preserve the structure, I&E said.
Phase one of the project will include replacing side-panel glazing, repainting structural steelwork, upgrading emergency lighting and carrying out localised roof repairs.
The grandstand seating area and pitch will be closed while the works take place.
Officials said discussions were ongoing with Jersey Bulls and the Jersey Football Association to manage the impact on fixtures and activities.
The department added that the café, gym, nursery and clinical services based at Springfield may face some disruption because of reduced parking and access, although all businesses are expected to remain open throughout the project.
The government said it would continue working with stakeholders and the public to minimise disruption during the refurbishment programme.
