Pupils from Rouge Bouillon School has been crowned winner of this year’s Genuine Jersey Jersey Royal potato growing competition after producing the heaviest school crop on the island.
The school’s Rainbow Room team grew 844g of Jersey Royals over the 12-week challenge, which saw primary school pupils nurture seed potatoes from February through to the final weigh-in at St Ouen’s Parish Hall.
Year 3 pupils at St Clement’s Primary School also earned recognition after growing 50 Jersey Royals in a single bucket.
This year marked the 20th edition of the competition, organised by Genuine Jersey and sponsored by Homefields.
The contest also involved Jersey’s Connétables, with St Ouen Constable Richard Honeycombe retaining his title after producing a yield of more than 1kg of Jersey Royals.
