A FORMER Devon councillor is to stand for election in June.

Karl Busch was a Conservative district councillor in Cullompton North between 2015 and 2019 but faced criticism for the amount of time he spent in Jersey.

He will be seeking one of the nine Senatorial seats on offer.

He said: ” I care for Jersey and first I care about its people. I’m a people’s person in fact I care so much that care now plays a huge part of my life.

“Some of us are born carers and some are forced into it whilst others do not. Overall, we are a caring society and that is good because a caring society shows that we are sophisticated and intelligent and understand that caring is not just about concern for others but ultimately, it’s about caring for yourself.

“We have already been cared for as children and on life’s journey some will care for others and ourselves before we go. So, what’s the theme here, yes CARE. Let’s call it Karl Care.”

Mr Busch stood for St Brelade Deputy in 2022 but was unsuccessful in securing a seat.

Islanders will head to the polls on Sunday 7 June, the first time a Jersey election has been held at the weekend.

There are 17 candidates seeking one of the nine Islandwide Senatorial seats, which are returning to the ballot paper after a four-year absence.
