CONSTABLE Karen Stone of St Martin has confirmed her intention to seek a third term in the role.

First elected in May 2018, Mrs Stone said she wished to carry on with projects both inside the parish and in the States Assembly.

She said: “It is a great privilege to serve both the parish and the Island – some of my propositions have brought attention to violence against women and girls, resulting in action and legislation, and another proposition on road safety forms the basis of the government’s new strategy to reduce road accidents.

Mrs Stone also served for three years as chair of the Privileges and Procedures Committee, bringing forward moves to bring in automatic voter registration and move polling day to a Sunday. The Constable is currently a member of the Health and Social Security Scrutiny Panel and a member of Jersey’s Commonwealth Parliamentary Committee executive branch.

She has been returned unopposed on the both previous occasions she has stood. However, elections where there is only one candidate now feature a “none of the above” option on the ballot paper – another innovation brought in by Mrs Stone.

In St Martin, the Constable cited the refurbishment project for the former parish primary school as one of her biggest achievements

“During my tenure I have installed an inclusive playground and a Viking swing and refurbished parish buildings,” she added. “I am raising funds to for the restoration of the Rectory Barn to transform it into a community centre and we are in the midst of a public consultation for the Gorey design plan,” she said.
