PLANS for ground investigations at Fort Regent have been lodged by the Jersey Development Company as it seeks to progress work towards a major transformation of the site.
JDC chief executive Lee Henry has told the Infrastructure and Environment Department that, while the approach would involve “disturbance” of Fort Regent’s post-1970 structures, it would “respect the in-situ historic fabric and will not result in any disturbance of the original 19th century features”.
The application seeks permission for a ground investigation comprising boreholes and trial pits, in order to inform design work for the site’s planned redevelopment announced by the government last year.
The £110 million vision includes plans for a rooftop bar, multi-purpose concert hall, cinema, BMX ‘pump track’ and indoor climbing wall, among other additions.
A survey commissioned by the JDC on behalf of the government last year garnered more than 6,000 respondents, with around 90% reportedly satisfied with the plans.
In a letter accompanying the ground investigation application, Mr Henry explained that this was needed to inform “the detailed design for foundations, floor slabs, specification of buried concrete and for initial waste classification and remediation strategies” ahead of the project’s implementation.
