A ST BRELADE Deputy and former Environment Minister has announced his intention to stand for re-election.

Jonathan Renouf, who was elected for the first time in 2022, said that it had been “a huge honour – and a pleasure – to represent my home parish in the States Assembly these last four years”.

A former pupil of La Moye, Les Quennevais and Hautlieu, his professional background includes 30 years as a London-based producer for the BBC.

He currently chairs the Hospital Review Panel and is vice-chair of the Health and Social Security Scrutiny Panel, as well as a member of the Corporate Services Scrutiny Panel.

He also served as Environment Minister during the time that Deputy Kristina Moore’s government was in power.

Announcing his re-election plans, Deputy Renouf said: “Having had experience both as a Minister (for the Environment) and as a very active backbencher, I hope that voters can see that I have worked hard to deliver meaningful change with a sensible, balanced agenda for change.”

Speaking to the JEP, he also noted that: “I believe strongly in the role of parish Deputy and that link between constituents and representation.

“You get to do both Island-wide and local stuff as a Deputy – I think it’s a great mix.”

Reflecting on his time as Environment Minister, Deputy Renouf described his work to progress the Island’s network of Marine Protected Areas as “something that I feel quite proud of”.

And he acknowledged his regular contributions during States questions and in scrutiny hearings, adding that “part of the job of being a backbencher is holding the government to account”.

Highlighting that he had “learned quite a lot” over the last four years, Deputy Renouf said that: “I would hope to be able to be a better, more effective Deputy the second time round.”
