Police were required on site "for reassurance" last week following a knife incident in the school's canteen.

A teenage boy charged with possession of an offensive weapon and grave and criminal assault has been remanded in custody.

The 14-year-old appeared in the Youth Court this morning.

Peter Connick, prosecuting, said he had carried a large kitchen knife and confronted a teenager queuing in the canteen at Haute Vallée School on Monday before staff intervened and the boy was disarmed.

Less than 48 hours after the restraint and arrest, the youth was brought to court, where he wore a white t-shirt and baggy grey tracksuit trousers during a short hearing.

Advocate Adam Harrison, defending, said that he would not be making a bail application, although the defendant told Assistant Magistrate Adam Clarke that he would wish to make such an application when the case returns to court on 17 February.
