A 14-YEAR-OLD boy has been arrested following an incident at Haute Vallée involving a knife.
States police said the teenager had to be restrained by members of staff until officers arrived at the scene.
In a statement, the force said: “Everyone is safe. Officers are at the school and working with staff to support students.
“One student has a very minor injury to the hand. There are no other reported injuries at this time.”
Education Minister Rob Ward said: “I have been fully briefed on the very serious incident that took place at Haute Vallée School today, and I want to begin by reassuring parents, carers and the wider community that all students and staff are safe. I am deeply grateful to the school’s leadership, teaching staff and support teams for their swift, calm and highly professional response. Their actions ensured that the situation was brought under control quickly and safely.
“I would also like to acknowledge the exemplary conduct of students, who remained calm and cooperative throughout. The school community responded with maturity and resilience at a very challenging moment.
“Officers from the States of Jersey Police have been on site and are working closely with the school as part of their ongoing investigation. It would not be appropriate to comment further while this work continues, but I want to emphasise that incidents of this nature are extremely rare, and the safety and wellbeing of young people remains our absolute priority.
“Wellbeing support is already in place for students and staff who may need it, and this will continue over the coming days. If any young person feels worried or unsettled, I encourage them to speak with their tutor, Head of Year, or a member of the pastoral team.
“I want to thank parents and carers for their understanding and cooperation today. The school will be open as normal tomorrow, and we will continue to work closely with Haute Vallée and the States of Jersey Police to ensure that the school community feels fully supported and reassured. Our children’s safety will always come first, and I am proud of the way the school community has responded.”
