ST Catherine’s breakwater is to undergo ground investigation work next month, as engineers prepare to drill into its ageing structure to help guide future repairs.
As part of the project, four boreholes will be drilled on the southern slipway and ten trial pits across the wider site will be excavated. No drilling will take place directly into the breakwater structure itself, Ports of Jersey has confirmed.
Geomarine has been selected to carry out the works, which will focus on the northern buttress and the southern slipway, following a tender a process.
The data collected will help shape future reinforcement and protection measures.
To minimise any disruption while the work is carried out, breakwater users have been informed in advance of the works, including access arrangements.
