A FORMER children’s home hosted an evening of board games to raise money for a local children’s charity.

Held at La Préférence, the GameChangers event welcomed nearly 50 guests for a night full of friendly competition and food, with those in attendance moving between a series of themed rooms throughout the house – with each hosting a different game.

Classics like Scrabble and more modern favourites such as Ticket to Ride, Splendour, and Catan were on offer.

Canapés and drinks were served throughout, creating what some described as a “club-style” atmosphere rather than a traditional charity event.

The concept behind the event was to bring people together through games, to raise money for children in need.

In total, £5,505 was raised, with all proceeds from the evening going to Variety Jersey, which supports children with special needs across the Island.

Host and organiser Matthew Stephenson said: “There was something quite moving about seeing the rooms full of laughter, conversation and people connecting, knowing the funds raised will go towards helping children in Jersey who really need it.”

Variety Jersey said it was “delighted” to be chosen as the first beneficiary of the new initiative and praised the creativity of the format.

“GameChangers shows that fundraising doesn’t have to follow a traditional template,” a spokesperson said. “It’s social, inclusive, and centred on bringing people together – exactly what Variety is about.”

Organisers hope to make GameChangers a regular fixture, to continue raising funds for local children’s charities.

The event was sponsored by the Lion Star Ark Foundation on behalf of the Le Quesne Family.
