TWO of Jersey’s most impressive wartime bunkers will open to the public this January.

The Batterie Lothringen command bunker at Noirmont will open on Sundays 4, 11 and 18 January, while the well-preserved Resistance Nest Millbrook opens on 10 and 17 January.

Previously the “eyes” for Kriegsmarine (Naval) Batterie Lothringen, the former is one of the largest bunkers in Jersey and has been extensively restored, featuring direction-finding periscopes and a rangefinder in an armoured turret.

Described as “the jewel of the Atlantikwall” by enthusiasts, Resistance Nest Millbrook includes many original fixtures and fittings, as well as a rare surviving 4.7cm ex-Czech anti-tank gun with coaxial machine gun.

All openings are hosted by Jersey War Tours, with free entry for under-16s accompanied by an adult. More details can be found at jerseybunkertours.com.
