JERSEY’S longest-serving politician has confirmed his intention to stand down at next summer’s general election after nearly three decades in the States Assembly.

St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft has revealed he will not be seeking re-election next June having first been elected as father of the parish in 2001.

Mr Crowcroft had also served for five years as a St Helier Deputy prior to being elected Constable.

His announcement comes shortly after fellow long-serving St Helier representative Deputy Geoff Southern told the States Assembly that he would not be seeking a further term.

Mr Crowcroft, who is currently an Assistant Infrastructure Minister, said: “I’ll be 68 by the time the election comes round, I can’t do it forever and there are other things that I want to do while I still can.”
