PUPILS from eight Island schools met the duo behind a Christmas single during a whistlestop tour.

Writer Adam Reece, a Jersey-based music teacher and Guernsey singer Emily Fern took part in the musical initiative alongside dozens of students as part of the promotion of the festive release Christmas Dream.

The duo co-wrote the track, and recorded it at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London, with the project growing into a larger venture to include the London Symphony Orchestra, synth player Phil Hartnoll and Bez from Happy Mondays. It was released on 4 November and a tour of schools across the Channel Islands was arranged.

The Jersey schools involved were Grainville, St Saviour’s, St Michael’s, Victoria College Prep, Grouville, Beaulieu, Springfield and Hautlieu.

Mr Reece said: “We had some brilliant feedback from the schools and in one case, at Hautlieu, the teacher explained that being told about the song inspired the children to form the choir, when without Christmas Dream they probably would never have done so.”

It was initially hoped that the single might climb the charts in time for Christmas, but the current standings feature several established artists, including Last Christmas by Wham at number one.
