FIVE individuals have been arrested for drink-driving since the start of December, according to the States police.
The figures were shared as part of the force’s “Get Home Safe” campaign.
A States police spokesperson said:“We arrest Islanders from all walks of life. Unfortunately, they chose to drink and drive, putting others in danger.
“Even if there’s no collision, there are consequences. A drink-driving conviction can mean losing your licence, your job, and your freedom.
“As we enjoy more nights out this festive season, the best thing we can do for one another is look after our friends, colleagues, and close ones by ensuring their journey home is sorted.”
Infrastructure Minister Andy Jehan, said: “Often the last thing we say to each other after social events is ‘get home safe’, and the best thing we can do for one another is look after our friends, colleagues, and close ones by ensuring their journey back home is safely planned.
“There are always plenty of travel options home. I would like to encourage Islanders to use the bus, take a taxi, or ask a friend for a lift. The consequences of drink driving, even without a collision, can be life changing.”
Police chief Robin Smith added: “As we begin to enter the festive period, there are more people going to parties and enjoying themselves.
“The important thing is that people are getting home safe, that people aren’t drinking and driving, and that they’ve got a plan to get home safely – not just because they think the police might catch them, but it’s a socially responsible thing to do.
“So this year, this festive period, have a plan. Know how you’re going to get home and get home safe.”
