A STATES-OWNED family home is currently on the market for £850,000, it has emerged.

A substantial five-bedroom house named ‘Caroldene’ in St Helier is being sold by the Infrastructure and Environment Department. The information was revealed in a recent Freedom of Information request about public property currently for sale in Jersey.

The property on Rue de la Hauteur has been in public ownership for over three decades.

It was first acquired by Jersey Property Holdings in June 1991 to facilitate the widening of the access road to Le Jardin de la Hauteur estate, a spokesperson for the Infrastructure and Environment Department explained.

Until this year, it had been leased to Jersey’s territorial army, the Jersey Field Squadron.

Infrastructure Minister Andy Jehan made the decision to sell the property on 25 July after consulting with the Corporate Property Management Board.

According to the government website, the property was recommended to “be disposed of” as it “represents a financial burden to the public”.

Those interested in purchasing the property will be pleased to hear it has already been reduced from an initial asking price of £975,000 to £850,000. It is currently being listed with Gaudin & Co Estate Agents.

Prospective buyers will have the opportunity to own their own swimming pool, a double garage and space for multiple cars. The property covers around 2,300 sq ft.

The listing states the property is in need of “comprehensive renovation” but that its sale “is a rare opportunity to transform a large and characterful home into something truly special”.
