Northern Leaf is based at Retreat Farm in St Lawrence (38876715)

A CANNABIS grower has succeeded in its latest attempt to build a cover over noisy chillers at its farm in St Lawrence.

Northern Leaf last month submitted updated plans to build an “acoustic enclosure” around existing chillers at Retreat Farm off Rue des Varvots.

The application doubled up as an attempt to get retrospective permission for the chillers, which nearby residents argue ruin the peaceful enjoyment of their homes.

It comes after the initial plans were rejected in September on the grounds that the proposed design was not good enough and there was not enough information about landscaping.

That meeting – dedicated solely to Northern Leaf applications – saw five proposals approved, while the sixth, for the acoustic enclosure, resulted in a tied vote and was therefore refused.

Nearby residents have raised repeated concerns about noise and smell from the cultivation and processing of pharmaceutical-grade medical cannabis at the site – but Northern Leaf has argued the enclosure is intended to reduce the noise from the chillers to acceptable levels.

Revised plans approved this week include a smaller clad building with a single pitched roof and additional landscaping detail. The application also sought permission to build a landscaped three-metre-high bund to the west and south of the chillers.
