A ST Helier department store has launched a project designed to support a women and families charity this festive season.
Throughout December, a handmade ‘Tree of Hope’ will be on display in the arcade of the De Gruchy.
The aim of the tree is to offer customers a simple and efficient way of showing support this Christmas.
It will be decorated with different gift tags; each gift tag will feature an item which will make a difference to an individual supported by domestic abuse charity Freeda. This may be someone living in the charity’s safe house or in the community.
Customers are encouraged to pick out a gift tag and buy the gift in store, to then leave at the concierge desk on the bottom floor.
All donations from the ‘Tree of Hope’ will be collected, wrapped and prepared for distribution at Christmas time by the team at Freeda.
Examples of suggested gifts include sets of towels, robes, slippers, pyjamas, bedding and throws, diffusers and candles, soap, alongside items such as hair straighteners or hairdryers.
Simon Youden, store director at de Gruchy said, “Christmas can be a difficult time for many families and we hope that our ‘Tree of Hope’ will encourage the community to come together and support those who need it most. Our customers are always incredibly generous, and even the smallest gift can make a real difference to the women and families Freeda supports. We’re proud to offer a simple and meaningful way for Islanders to spread kindness this festive season.”
