A FESTIVE fundraiser was due to kick off today in aid of a project to help finance a new playground at Mont à l’Abbé School.
The Advent Calendar Challenge is tasking participants to travel a certain distance each day in some sort of exercise during December, correlating to the day’s date.
Known as an accumulator challenge, the amount of exercise will increase daily. On 1 December, participants will travel one kilometre or mile, on 2 December they will travel two kilometres or miles, and so forth.
The challenge, like advent, will conclude on Christmas Eve with a 24 kilometre or mile distance. Those taking part could use any method of exercise including walking, cycling, running, or swimming.
The organiser, James Scott, aims to raise £7,500 towards the Mont à l’Abbé School Playground Project, which plans to build a state-of-the-art inclusive play area for the school’s students, who all have complex needs.
At its launch today at Les Quennevais cycle track, some of the school’s students and teachers will be taking part with Mr Scott in the first day of the challenge.
Ahead of the launch, Mr Scott said: “At Mont à l’Abbé School, the pupils face challenges every day, but their joy, determination, and spirit inspire us all.
“With your kindness and support, we can create more than just a playground – we can create a space filled with laughter, belonging, and endless possibilities.”
