TRIBUTES have been a much-loved and long-serving parish lollipop lady and charity supporter who died earlier this month.
St John Constable Andy Jehan said Muriel Poisson MBE “made an impact on so many people” during her voluntary and professional work and that “she will be greatly missed”.
Muriel died earlier this month at the age of 80.
Sharing the news on social media, Muriel’s family said she passed away “peacefully” in the “wonderful care” of Jersey Hospice on 6 November. She had three children and two granddaughters.
Known widely in the parish, Muriel worked as a St John lollipop lady for 25 years while also completing numerous charity circles, organising countless fundraising events and being an enthusiastic supporter of the Battle of Flowers.

In 2007, she was awarded an MBE for her charity work in that year’s Queen’s New Years Honours list.
At the time she told the JEP that being recognised in that way had been completely unexpected.
“I do the fundraising because I love it and all of the people involved,” she said.
Mr Jehan said: “I knew how hard Muriel worked for many years, but I didn’t fully appreciate just how hard she worked, until I became Constable.
“Muriel made an impact on so many people either personally or through her fundraising efforts, she will be missed greatly by myself and the whole community here in St John.”
Relatives and friends of Muriel’s are invited to her funeral, which is set to take place at St John’s Parish Church on 28 November.
Her relatives have requested family flowers only. They have asked for donations to be made to Jersey Hospice Care in lieu of flowers.
