AN Islander has completed a charity walk covering the length of Ireland, raising almost £8,000 in the process.

Billy Brenock (22) reached Mizen Head at the southern-most point of the Emerald Isle, having set off from Malin Head around seven weeks ago.

The former De La Salle College student was met by a welcome party including his mother Eilish, two aunts, an uncle and his girlfriend Carys Lelliott-Hayes.

During his time on the road, Mr Brenock covered almost 1,000 kilometres, survived some wild weather sweeping in from the Atlantic and spent time at the town in County Cork where his parents had met.

A fundraising website for donations to three charities – Dementia Jersey, Macmillan Cancer Support and the Irish Heart Foundation – remains open at justgiving.com/crowdfunding/malin2mizen-1000km-50daywalk
