JERSEY secondary school students will be taking to the States Chamber later this month to debate whether the Nobel Peace Prize has “an important role to play in promoting world peace”.

Taking place on Friday 21 November, the discussion forms part of this year’s Colin Powell Rotary Student Peace Debate, which gives young Islanders the chance to speak in the Chamber and share their views on global issues.

The annual event – first launched in 2014 – invites teams from each participating school to present arguments on different aspects of the theme, followed by questions from their peers.

Deputy Kristina Moore will deliver the keynote address to open the debate, which is open to students from Year 10 and above, although younger pupils are also eligible to take part.

Members of the public are invited to watch from the public gallery of the States Chamber or tune in live on the States Assembly website.
