A PUB at Snow Hill is set to re-open this weekend after undergoing a South American facelift.

The Cornerhouse Pub, which makes the corner of La Motte Street, will be welcoming Islanders for cocktails, karaoke, and Mexican food under new management.

Venezuelan-born Victor Nobrega, who already owns two other hospitality businesses directly next door to the pub, has decided to take the plunge into a third venture.

After rebranding the as Bodegon del Mojito at The Cornerhouse, Mr Nobrega is looking forward to welcoming punters back into what was a popular evening venue after a four-month closure.

With new decor and a revamped food and drinks menu, the establishment will offer Islanders a taste of traditional flavours of Mexico.

The pub has gone through a drinks-only soft launch in the last few weeks, but this weekend will see food served for the first time under the new look.

Bodegon del Mojito will operate as The Cornerhouse did previously, with a license until 11pm.

It will open five days, serving lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner from Wednesday to Sunday at first, with a view to starting a six-day service, Mr Nobrega explained.

Having opened his first outlet Venezuelan takeaway Arepera la Tricolor four years ago, the businessman decided to branch out into in-house service at No 6 Poncha Bar & Eatery just next door in 2023.

The reason for his new business, he told the JEP, is due to growing popularity and a desire to do more for the area.

“The poncha bar started to feel a bit small, and this place becoming available was a coincidence really – the lease was up at the right time,” said Mr Nobrega.

“I always saw the Cornerhouse doing amazingly well, and the idea is a bit of food, some karaoke in the late night, and a lot of fun.”

The menu for Bodegon del Mojito can be found on food.je, where Islanders can also order takeaway meals.
