UPGRADES are due to begin at 18 mobile sites across the Island to prepare for the launch of 5G services next year.
Sure by Beyon will be upgrading sites throughout November and December with the latest equipment from the firm’s global technology partner Ericsson.
Existing structures and antennas will be replaced as part of work to prepare for the launch of 5G services in Jersey next year.
Several former Airtel sires are also being improved with new structures that will better support this technology, following Sure’s acquisition of Airtel.
While this work is underway, there may be short periods of reduced mobile coverage in some areas. Each site will typically be off air for up to one-and-a-half days.
A further set of upgrades will follow in January to replace the remaining structures.
Following Sure’s acquisition of Airtel, the company is also improving several former Airtel sites with new structures that will better support this technology.
