ISLANDERS are being urged to beat the festive rush as Jersey Post prepares for its busiest time of the year.
An average of 65,000 items are set to be delivered every day during the month leading up to Christmas, representing a 30% spike in volumes from the rest of the year.
Jersey Post’s chief operating officer Julie Thomas said every household would shortly receive a leaflet showing last posting dates, opening hours for the post offices at Broad Street and Rue des Pres, and parcel collection details, with the information also available at jerseypost.com/christmas.
Extra staff have been employed to help deal with the busy period, and there is also a chance for young Islanders to send letters and Christmas lists to Santa Claus from any post box until 12 December.
Tips for sending and receiving items over the festive period include posting as early as possible, pre-paying VAT on goods going to the UK, and buying postage online, with printable labels that can be attached to items before they are dropped at the post office.
Those expecting deliveries can sign up for the Secure Drop facility, which enables letters and parcels (including signed-for items) to be delivered when householders are out.
Ms Thomas added: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to our incredible teams – from our posties delivering come rain or shine; to our operations team for all their hard work behind the scenes in the sorting office; and to our counter colleagues and customer care teams for all the help they provide to our customers during this exceptionally busy time.”
