ONE of Jersey’s annual Christmas markets has been recognised as one of Europe’s best for the third consecutive year.
Genuine Jersey’s Simply Christmas Markets have once again featured in Lonely Planet’s guide to the Best Christmas Markets in Europe.
The festive event is set to return to the Royal Square for four weeks from Thursday 20 November to Sunday 14 December.
This year, more than 80 local producers and crafters will showcase local gifts and homegrown produce such as seasonal food and drink, artwork, jewellery and skincare.
As well as a festive atmosphere, visitors can also expect live music and hot food served throughout the event, which will open four days-a-week.
Of being named as one of Europe’s best once again, John Garton, chief executive of Genuine Jersey, said he is “thrilled” and that the markets “aren’t a copy-and-paste of anywhere else”.
“Every stall is run by a Jersey maker or producer who can tell you how it was made,” he said. “That connection matters. It’s what makes Simply Christmas feel personal rather than generic and we’re sure is why people come back year after year.”
The markets are being supported by Signtech (CI), the Government of Jersey and Jersey Mutual.
Tim De Gruchy, Managing Director of Signtech (CI), added: “It’s fantastic to see [the markets] recognised by Lonely Planet once again. The markets bring the Royal Square to life and give local producers a brilliant platform to shine.”
