ISLANDERS can get a discount on water butts at four garden centres as part of a new campaign encouraging people to collect rainwater over winter.

Jersey Water has partnered with four garden retailers – JFTU, Ransoms, Le Quesne’s and St Peter’s Garden Centres – to offer a 10% discount on water butts until 6 December.

A water butt is container that collects and stores rainwater and is designed to provide sustainable water source for gardening, washing the car or filling ponds.

It is part of the company’s drive to help households prepare for drier months by using rainwater instead of mains water for gardens, ponds and car washing as reservoir levels remain below average for the time of year.

Mark Bowden, head of water resilience and emergency planning, said collecting rainwater was “one of the simplest and most effective ways” to save water and cut bills.

Islanders can also use Jersey Water’s free GetWaterFit app to track their water use.
