DISCUSSIONS about acquiring a playing field at First Tower School have stalled, according to the Infrastructure Minister.

In a response to a written States question, Infrastructure Minister Andy Jehan revealed that due to “personal reasons” on the part of the landowner of the preferred site for a potential playing field, the project had been held up.

Mr Jehan did confirm however that discussions between Jersey Property Holdings and the owner had taken place and that the “government remains committed to pursuing a resolution and will seek to re-engage with the owner once it is appropriate to do so”.

As amended, the Government Plan 2022–2025 detailed that an additional £150,000 was set aside in the Central Planning Reserve for another playing field near the school.

Mr Jehan confirmed that his department had been working “collaboratively” alongside the Children, Young People, Education and Skills Department to secure a suitable site near to First Tower School.

He explained in the meantime, initial feasibility and site assessment work had been undertaken to “evaluate land suitability, accessibility, and environmental considerations”.

Mr Jehan added: “Once an agreement is in place with the landowner, further engagement with relevant stakeholders, including the school and local community, will continue to ensure that the proposed development meets both educational and community needs.”
