WHEN a States Assembly newsletter recently posed the question: ‘Do you know your constituency?’ readers may not have been aware that it was a call for assistance.
Under that heading – in the first ‘constituency update’ recently sent out to all residents of St John, St Lawrence and Trinity – a map showed the three-parish electoral district.
But recipients were quick to point out that ‘St Lawrence’ was listed as ‘Trinity’ and ‘Trinity’ was listed as ‘St Lawrence’.
And district representative Hilary Jeune was called ‘Hilary Juene’.
As Alexander Pope famously said: “To err is human; to forgive, divine,” and the States Greffe, which produced the leaflet, was quick to put up its hands.
It said: “Our sincere apologies for this error. A simple human mistake, from which we have learnt and updated our review process. We will do our utmost to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Meanwhile, we’re grateful to Islanders for their sharp eyes and understanding.”
