JERSEY’S Over-50s have made the perfect start to their Walking Football World Nations Cup campaign in Torrevieja, Spain, claiming back-to-back wins in their opening fixtures.

From 21 to 31 October, the 2025 Walking Football World Nations Cup will take over the coastal city of Torrevieja, bringing together the global walking football community

The island side kicked off the tournament in style with a commanding 7-0 victory over Japan at the state-of-the-art Torrevieja Sports City complex. Steve Martin, Luke Heynes, and Simon Logan were all on target, while substitutes Paul Cauvain, Mark Oliver, and Luis Bento each found the net to complete a dominant display.

They followed that up with another impressive result, beating Cyprus 3-0, with Logan scoring twice and Oliver adding the third to secure Jersey’s second win of the group stage.

Jersey compete in Group B of the men’s Over-50s category, alongside Czech Republic, Canada, Cyprus, Morocco, Japan, and France, as they look to progress through one of the most competitive sections of the tournament.

The event, organised by the Federation of International Walking Football Associations (FIWFA), has drawn more than 120 teams from over 45 countries, featuring men’s divisions in the Over-50s, 60s, and 70s, and women’s categories in the Over-40s, 50s, and 60s.

Meanwhile, Jersey’s Over-60s are set to begin their campaign in Group A, where they face a challenging line-up of teams including England, Hong Kong, Brazil, Japan, the Basque Country, France, and Northern Ireland.

The week-long tournament celebrates both competition and camaraderie, bringing together walking football communities from across the globe and Jersey’s early success shows they are ready to make their mark on the world stage.
