A 53-YEAR-OLD man has been unanimously found guilty of rape by a Royal Court jury.

Simon De La Haye was accused of raping a woman who he pinned down until she couldn’t move, and continuing despite her protestations.

Crown Advocate Emma Hollywood, prosecuting, described how he had threatened to harm himself, the woman, or her loved ones, and threatened to embarrass her.

She also described a search history that included searches for rape pornography, along with a previous conviction for another rape.

The victim appeared in court earlier this week, describing how De La Haye’s actions had led her to live in “abject fear” and that she thought he would “kill everyone”.

Advocate Adam Harrison, defending, said the accusations were made up.

The jury deliberated for around two hours before unanimously finding him guilty.

De La Haye was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced on 17 December. He was added to the sex offenders’ register.

The Deputy Bailiff, Robert MacRae, was presiding.

More in tomorrow’s JEP.

The JEP has been asked to make clear that the Simon De La Haye in this case is not Simon De La Haye (41) of St Helier, a Project/Change Management Consultant.
