THERE are “plenty of pumpkins to go around” despite the dry conditions this year, according to a local farmer – as Islanders prepare to celebrate Halloween.
Phil Le Maistre of Master Farms said that the farm, which grows around 10,000 pumpkins each year, had seen “similar numbers as usual” despite the lack of rainfall.
Figures released by Jersey Met showed that 2025 was Jersey’s fourth-hottest summer on record and had an overall summer rainfall figure of 127.5mm – around 30mm below the long-term average.
But Mr Le Maistre said that there were “plenty of pumpkins to go around”.
He said: “We managed to irrigate them. We try and make sure and plan for that.
“Where our pumpkins are planted, they are in a field that we can water so that if it doesn’t rain, they don’t die.”
He spoke shortly after Master Farms held the first of its Pumpkin Patch events for this year.
Tickets for the event – which is also being held this Saturday as well as the 25, 28 and 31 October – can be found online by searching for Master Farms’ Pumpkin Patch 2025 on the Eventbrite website.
