ISLANDERS are being encouraged to take part in the Sanctuary Trust’s annual Sleep Out fundraiser – with hopes it will raise £50,000 this year.

Sponsored by Skipton international, the event will see participants abandon the comfort of their homes for a night in Pier Road car park.

It is scheduled to take place from 8pm on Friday 14 November.

The Sanctuary Trust was set up in 2011 to provide emergency accommodation for men facing homelessness.

As well as accommodation and support, the Trust provides counselling and pathways into
employment and securing longer-term accommodation when residents are ready to live
independently.

The Sleep Out is the Sanctuary Trust’s flagship fundraiser and last year raised more than £30,000.

Fundraising and communications lead Abby Harris-Peters said sign-ups for the 2025 event were “going well”, but stressed that the charity was always seeking to get more people involved – especially corporate teams and organisations.

She noted organisers were aiming to raise £50,000 with this year’s Sleep Out.

“We’re hoping for as many people as possible to take part,” she added.

“All funds raised will go directly towards our work supporting individuals experiencing homelessness in our community.”

Those interested in taking part in the event can sign up via the Sanctuary Trust’s website.
