THE tenth iteration of the Jersey Festival of Words starts today, with a series of events featuring across the week featuring some of the UK’s most prominent literary figures.
More than 25,000 tickets have been sold or reserved across the 70 events on offer until 28 September at venues around Jersey. Many of the events are on offer are free of charge.
Headliners at this year’s festival include Slow Horses author Mick Herron, Labyrinth author Kate Mosse CBE, the ‘Twitter Poet Laureate’ Brian Bilston, The Gruffalo illustrator Axel Scheffler and comedian Helen Lederer.
Local authors and creatives including, Kelly Frost, Penny Byrne and performance poet Christian Foley also appear on the programme. Various events highlighting aspects of Jersey’s heritage language Jèrriais form part of the offering.
The aim of the festival is for all ages to celebrate language, storytelling and the cultural fabric of the Island’s community.
This year, several events are being interpreted into British Sign Language and various languages spoken in communities around Jersey including Polish, Romanian, Portuguese and French.
