JERSEY Post’s new fleet of stamps could transport Islanders back to a time when “beautiful” ships were built in Jersey and sent to voyage across the oceans for trade, fishing and war.
The six new stamp designs feature four ships, a shipyard and a shipyard owner, represented in line drawings by Martin Mörck.
Mr Mörck builds vessels as a hobby and quoted his father as saying: “Only two things in the world have to be created in perfect harmony, music and ships.”
The Island was “a central hub” for shipbuilding, Jersey Post said, because it did not take taxes but had “plentiful” harbours.
Ships built there were “world-class” and “high-quality”, they added.
The set includes six stamps, a souvenir sheetlet, first day covers and presentation packs.
