The rescue took place at Green Island Picture: Jersey Fire and Rescue Service

THE Jersey Fire and Rescue Service has issued a safety reminder about the Island’s “fast-changing” tides and currents following a coastal rescue on Tuesday evening.

JFRS responded to the incident at around 7.30pm, following reports that three individuals were struggling in the water about 100 metres from the beach at Green Island.

Jersey Coastguard and the RNLI’s St Helier lifeboat – which was already at sea conducting training exercises – also responded.

“On arrival, the individuals had been assisted onto nearby rocks by a quick-thinking paddleboarder and kayaker – a great example of community spirit,” a spokesperson wrote in a post on the JFRS Facebook page.

“Our IRB [Inshore Rescue Boat] was launched to safely recover the three persons, who were brought ashore and assessed by the States of Jersey Ambulance Service,” the post continued. “Thankfully, no injuries were reported.”

The service thanked everyone involved in the rescue and issued a safety reminder about the island’s “fast-changing” tides and currents, warning that “the sea around Jersey can be unpredictable”.

It added that those enjoying Jersey’s coastline should check tide times and the weather forecast before heading out, keep communication devices in a waterproof case and never underestimate the strength of the tide.

“If in doubt, don’t go out,” the spokesperson said.
