ST Brelade’s Bay, the cliffs of Grève de Lecq and the paths around St Aubin play a starring role in a series of new children’s picture books showcasing Jersey’s natural beauty.

Aimed at children aged between two and six, the books – published by author and early years specialist Penelope Willis – are designed to “soothe, reassure, and help little ones feel safe, seen, and loved”.

Inspired by her grandson who lives on the Island, the books follow Oscar and his dog Toby as they explore the Island’s coast.

Mrs Willis, who lives in Lancashire, said: “It felt very special to bring Jersey’s beauty to life through a child’s eyes.

“Jersey’s natural beauty captivates me — the contrast between its wild, dramatic coastline and the lush, rolling countryside is simply breathtaking. There’s something deeply grounding in the way the land and sea meet here, and it’s this quiet magic that fills my stories with wonder.”

“My grandson walks the path to St Aubin’s Bay with his parents and their little dog, often stopping to explore and notice the world around him. He’s even visited the puffin sculpture that features in Oscar and the Brave Little Puffin. Watching him connect so naturally with the Island — its sounds, textures, and colours — has been a big part of what inspired me to write the Oscar books.”

“I hope local families feel a sense of familiarity and belonging when they read the stories — recognising places they love and moments they’ve shared.

“Through Oscar’s gentle adventures, I’d like children to take away quiet messages about kindness, caring for others, and looking after the world around them.”

The books are now available via Amazon and IngramSpark.
