SHOPPERS will have noticed a new, more colourful look to the town centre this summer…

As part of the build-up to this year’s Battle of Flowers parade throughout town on 8 and 9 August, local businesses have been decorated with fresh flowers and float elements from years gone by and Islanders are now being invited to vote for their favourite.

16 businesses received a total of £39,000 to participate in the Town Takeover via the Creative Island Partnership.

The shopfront floral displays are sourced from local florists and made from sustainable materials, according to organisers.

“It is great to see the colourful displays on the shopfronts bringing the flavour of Battle of Flowers into the heart of St Helier. It is one of our goals to revitalise town and this variation on the traditional event brings vibrancy and energy,” economic development minister Kirsten Morel said.

“Cornerstone events like this help drive footfall and support our local economy during the busy summer season and I am grateful to the businesses who have fully embraced the spirit of the Town Takeover. I am really excited for the remainder of the new-look Battle programme,” he added.
