THE mystery of why colourful, other-worldly, and non-moving ‘women’ began popping up at various beauty spots around the Island – and occasionally at sea – has finally been solved.
The creations form part of an immersive art exhibition created by Canadian artist Corey Ceccarelli.
Earlier this year, the figures had caused a stir on social media with Islanders concocting at times outlandish theories about their origin – such as arriving from a distant planet.
But, back on Earth, the life-size sculptures are due to feature in an exhibition opening this weekend entitled ‘ŴässerŴater – L’ieau de Vita’ which aims to explore the “vital, mystical, and life-giving force of water”, according to the artist.
His works have been created with sustainable materials and inspired by Jersey’s natural landscape.
The sculptures will be available to view from this weekend until the end of August at the Link Gallery in Jersey Museum.
An exhibition preview is taking place at the venue tomorrow (Saturday 2 August) from 1pm to 4pm.
