Cimandis Foodservice has confirmed that it will cease trading in Guernsey at the end of next month, marking the end of its operations in the Channel Islands.
It comes just weeks after it was announced that the Jersey branch would be closing at the end of July.
At the time, Cimandis said they were “optimistic” about the branch’s future in Guernsey.
However, after what was described as an “an extensive period of review”, the company confirmed on Tuesday that soaring shipping costs, rising rents, and the “unique logistical challenges of operating in an island market” meant the business was not sustainable.
It’s understood that staff were given redundancy notices on Monday afternoon.
Describing the decision as “heartbreaking”, Managing Director Nigel Holliday commented: “We left no stone unturned in trying to keep the Guernsey business going and explored every possible avenue, from restructuring and streamlining to external support and stakeholder consultation.
“Despite our best efforts, the economic conditions left us with no viable alternative.”
Praising his “hardworking, committed and passionate” team, he added that it was a “priority” to support colleagues losing their jobs in finding “new opportunities”.
