THREE experts are due to come together at an event at St Helier Town Hall this evening to discuss the future of smartphone use in Jersey, after the Island banned pupils under 16 from using phones in schools.

Former Channel Islands Data Protection Commissioner, Emma Martins, will join Deputy Head of Victoria College Patrick Crossley, and Dr Chris Edmond, an occupational physician and chair of Lifestyle Medicine Jersey, as part of a panel at the Town Hall chaired by Festival of Words Chair Lucy Cotter.

Event organiser Emily Jennings, who is part of the Health Professionals for Safer Screens group, said the aim of the event was to bring politicians, policy officials and members of the community together to discuss “how to move forward” amid growing awareness of the potential harm caused by social media.

The panel discussion will take place between 19:00 and 21:00. Tickets are free and available via Eventbrite.
