PLANS to build 128 new homes – a mix of social rental and affordable housing – in St Peter have been approved.

The Planning Committee this week backed proposals from Forge Developments which will see housing developed on three fields – P558, P559 and P632 – which are adjacent to La Grande Route De St Pierre and La Route du Manoir in the parish.

The fields were rezoned for affordable housing during the Bridging Island Plan debate three years ago.

Of the 128 residential units due to be built, 58 will be for social rental and 70 for affordable housing.

There will be 13 four-bedroom homes, 95 three-bedroom homes, eight two-bedroom bungalows, as well as four two-bed and eight one-bed apartments, along with car and cycle parking and a “parish green” shared open space.

The development will also include a relocated bus shelter, passing places for vehicles, and a foot and cycle path to the north of two of the fields.

La Verte Rue, which runs between two fields in the south and one in the north, will be partly pedestrianised as part of plans.

The Planning Committee’s decision follows previous approvals for 42 homes in the parish and for 37 homes in St Ouen, all on fields rezoned for affordable housing.
