MOBILE phone network sites were targeted in a spree of malicious damage that caused “extensive damage” Wednesday and Thursday, according to the police.
They said five sites belonging to JT had been attacked between Wednesday night and Thursday night.
Mobile phone services might see “some disruption”, they added, and advised islanders to use landlines if their mobile phones were affected.
Four sites were damaged:
- 6.30 pm on Wednesday, 2 July at La Mare Wine Estate, St John
- 10.45 pm on Wednesday, 2 July at Les Pres d’Auvergne (near the car park at L’Etacq)
- 8.30 am on Thursday, 3 July at Les Landes Road, St Ouen
- 7.45 pm on Thursday, 3 July at Ville au Bas Stables, St Ouen
- 10pm on Thursday, 3 July at La Rue au Cerf, St Ouen
A possible suspect was spotted in the early hours this morning – a male described as being “approximately 40-50 years of age, wearing a black fleece with green trousers with blonde hair”.
The suspect was last spotted in the area of Carrefour Selous around 05.44am.
“If you have seen a male matching this description in this area please contact us on 01534 612612 using option 2 followed by option 4,” officers said.
They further warned: “Anyone responsible for the damage and considering further actions is putting themselves at risk.”
999 calls continue to work.
Security, including police presence, has been put in place at the sites that were targeted.
