A FORMER head boy at De La Salle has written a book on British politics and economy which is due to be published by a major publisher later this year.
Joe Mayes’ book ‘Can You Run the Economy?’ is described as a “choose-your-own-adventure” in which the reader takes on the role of UK Chancellor and is tasked with managing the nation’s finances and winning an upcoming election.
Mr Mayes previously studied at De La Salle College, graduating in 2011, before going on to be an award-winning journalist at Bloomberg News in London.

The 32-year-old’s first book is due to be published by Penguin this autumn.
The book features interviews with former Chancellors Norman Lamont, Philip Hammond, Kwasi Kwarteng and Jeremy Hunt, as well as current Chancellor, Rachel Reeves.
Mr Mayes, who previously did work experience with the JEP before going on to work at Bloomberg, said writing the book had been “a blast”.
“I can’t wait to share it with the world,” Mr Mayes said.
He added: “I hope readers will find it to be an entertaining and thought-provoking introduction to the world of Westminster and the all-important role of the Chancellor.”
Mr Mayes, who grew up in St Peter, said he was “proud to be flying the flag for Jersey” and “grateful” to his teachers who he said “helped him throughout his education”.
He said: “I was blessed with many great role models and tutors at both Mont Nicole and De La Salle, and I’ll always appreciate everything they did for me.”
Mr Mayes also represented the Island at the Commonwealth Youth Parliament and played cricket for Jersey.
