HUNDREDS of Islanders set out on a 48-mile walk around Jersey in the heat today in support of local charities.
Around the Island Walk Trust chairman Robert Syvret said that over 1,500 walkers registered for this year’s event, including those taking part in the 13-mile Lieutenant-Governor’s Challenge, the Relay and the One TMF Challenge.
Just over 1,000 Islanders signed up for the main 48-mile trek.
Speaking to the JEP earlier this afternoon, Mr Syvret said: “It’s a long day out there but people are being amazing.”
He continued: “There’s some great support out on the course this year.
“Just before White Rock I saw a lady out there at 8am this morning with her two little kids handing out sweets to the walkers coming past.
“It’s little things like that – that’s why it’s such an iconic Jersey event.”
Since the walk’s inception in 1991, more than £2 million has been raised for local charities.
“We’re really hoping this year to break through the £3 million mark for the total amount raised over the 34 years,” Mr Syvret added.
“We are well on our way to raising £100,000 [with the 2025 event], but if anyone hasn’t sponsored a walker yet there is still a great opportunity for them to sponsor via our website.”
