SWIMMERS raised over £90,000 for cancer charities this year during the annual Swimarathon, with a first-time participant topping the leaderboard.

The five-day event from 19 to 23 March saw swimmers from schools, families and corporate teams swim lengths of Les Quennevais Pool.

Three teams were awarded trophies: Victoria College Prep won the schools trophy for the most money raised per swimmer and EY won the prize for the biggest corporate fundraising effort.

The De Gruchy family, who were first-time Swimarathoners, won the award for the most funds raised by a family team.

Half of the money raised went to the seven charities selected by Jersey Lions Club. Selected under the theme “Supporting Islanders affected by cancer”, they received £6,500 each.

  • CLIC Sargent Jersey
  • Friends of Jersey Oncology
  • Jersey Brain Tumour Charity
  • Jersey Cancer Relief
  • Macmillan Cancer Support
  • Jersey Hospice

The other half of the funds raised goes to the Lions Club’s charity account, which they spend “in the local community” according to the organising committee chairman, Lion Chris Palmer.

He added: “Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Ravenscroft that covers all the event’s costs, all the moneys raised by swimmers will be spent within the local community plus periodic donations to the Lions Clubs International Foundation, the Lions’ own worldwide charity.”

The next Swimarathon is due to start on Wednesday 25 March 2026.
